Greetings, travel advisors! My name is Richard Earls, and I've been in the travel business for almost 40 years.
Like you, I began in the travel industry as a travel advisor. That was way back in 1990! I later developed a small software program that Travel Weekly purchased in 2001, and I became a publisher for them. When I came up with the idea for Travel Research Online, I left and started my own publication.
Three years ago, my son, who is a top-notch AI programmer, convinced me that AI would profoundly affect the travel industry for suppliers, consumers, and, especially, Travel Advisors. So I was fortunate to have an expert right beside me as we started our own AI company that is now used by thousands of travel advisors in the United States and Canada. But as I have watched the evolution of AI in the industry, it has happened in a most unusual way. AI use in most travel agencies bubbles up from individual use by travel advisors, without any structured training or support. The vast potential of AI as an amazing tool to make us better at what we do is thus unachieved.
